It is so ironic that we are compared to sheep in the bible. In Psalms there is a scripture that states, “The Lord is my Shepherd. He leadeth me beside still waters, He reneweth my soul”. Sheep can not see right in front of their face. They have trouble judging the depth of things. However, they can see great behind them. Their peripheral vision is excellent. To make vision even worse many Shepherds pour oil over the head of their sheep to keep a particular insect from drilling holes into their ears and brains. The oil makes the wool so slick that the books slide off before they can infiltrate the sheep.
Doesn’t some of these qualities sound like us? We have a habit of looking back and those reflections are so vivid and clear to us. We have a hard time seeing what is ahead of us and we typically rely on our emotions to guide our path in decisions about our futures. The devil is constantly trying to plant a seed in our minds so that it can filter to our hearts and destroy us and block our blessings.
We so need to be lead just as a Shepherd leads his sheep. We need to rely on God’s voice to lead us. If not we will go astray and we may not make it to safety. Lets allow God to truly be our Sheppard and lay aside all feelings/emotions and be lead by the word of God planted in our hearts.
